Our Journey Towards Change

about

India has an acute problem of rural un-employment and under-employment. A disproportionate portion of this un-employment is among the female population of rural districts.

Our Journey

To address this problem, I started an initiative called 100/100/100. My objective was to train women to contribute to the workforce. I wanted to focus on skills that took a short time to train but created meaningful employment. My goal was to train 100 women in 100 days and create 100 jobs. I visited numerous villages in the Mahbubnagar district of Telangana to understand the challenges faced by women in entering the workforce. I also visited several local industries to understand the relevant jobs required at the time.

had an inaugural event with over 500 girls, but capacity constraint limited us to 100 participants between the ages of 18 and 25. We provided them with 100 days of extensive training in one of three job-specific courses; general duty assistants (healthcare), non-voice customer care (Business Process Outsourcing) and soldering technicians (electronic manufacturing). In addition to job specific skills, we also provided training on soft skills, personal hygiene, and communication in English. We partnered with professional training companies to conduct skill training. In consultation with Industry groups and employers, we guaranteed them employment opportunities with companies, most of them within an hour’s commute of their home. Providing life-changing prospects to so many disadvantaged women was a thoroughly gratifying experience and led me to create The Hundred Days Later Foundation – an organization dedicated to transforming the lives of rural women across Telangana.
