Background:

I am Budemkani Mamtha from Khila Ghanpur, Wanaparthy. Our family consists of four members, Some years ago, we were the wealthiest family in the village. Due to our misfortune, we lost all our wealth due to losses in crops, all the investments made in agriculture has led us to debts. My father works on farming as labour now and lone bread winner for the family, the amount he earns is not sufficient to support our family.

Due to persistent financial problems, I could not get proper education. I some how completed my schooling in a Government High School and intermediate from junior college and in Telugu medium.

I am desperate to help my family, but I could not be able to get a suitable job and support my family due to skill gap and lack of qualifications. It became my dream to overcome these problems and remind as a dream until I come across a girl with noble intentions.

One day, few representatives from 100 Days Later Foundation visited our village and conducted a mobilization drive for their 100 Days Later Initiative. I learned about the initiative, Ms. Pratinya has come up with a novel idea of changing lives of unemployed women in exactly 100 days of training and placement assistance.

I decided to support the family and stumbled upon the  100 Days Later Initiative a skill development program of the 100 Days Later Foundation and Cyient Foundation lead by Ms. Pratinya.

I had visited the training centre and interacted with counsellor, Intrigued by the opportunities it presented, I convinced my family to allow me to enrol in the General Duty Assistant (GDA) course. The GDA course is designed to build proficiency in a wide range of healthcare support tasks, from assisting nurses and performing procedures to tending to patients’ needs and creating a comfortable environment for them.

The course curriculum covers crucial aspects of day-to-day healthcare responsibilities, such as patient bathing, grooming, meal support, infection control, and accurate measurement of vital signs. Candidates are also trained in relevant soft skills such as teamwork and communication. I soon found myself in a novel environment, surrounded by students much younger than me. One month of on-the-job training (OJT) was completed successfully in Susrutha Hospital, where I performed many tasks such as drawing blood, giving injections, and checking blood pressure.

Through the 100 Days of GDA course, I not only found a career path but also gained the necessary skills to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients under my care. My sincere thanks to Ms. Pratinya and her family helping us in realizing our dreams.
